What You’ll Be Doing

Counseling responsibilities:

  • Interview possible new clients via telephone or in person to begin psychotherapy.
  • Counsel individuals, groups, or families to help them understand problems, deal with crisis situations, define goals, and develop realistic action plans.
  • Develop therapeutic and treatment plans based on clients’ interests, abilities, and needs.
  • Document patient information including but not limited to, session notes, progress notes, recommendations, and treatment plans.
  • Assist in an audit if or when it is applicable.
  • Refer clients to specialists or to other institutions for related non-counseling therapy.
  • Provide outreach speeches to educational institutions, hospitals, pediatrician’s offices etc. to solicit clients.
  • Conduct individual, family, and group therapy sessions while earning BBS hours
  • Earn advocacy hours while presenting, attending outside trainings, and representing our organization at various meetings and events
  • Attend Intensive 2 hour weekly group supervision lead by an LMFT. Unique mentorship approach to facilitate personal and professional growth.

  • In addition, we facilitate comprehensive monthly trainings on topics pertaining to a wide range of treatment styles and theories, so that our clinicians are exposed to different approaches, both traditional and modern. 

What You Bring to the Table

  • Enjoy working with individuals of all ages, races, religious backgrounds, and personalities
  • Reliable transportation and current vehicle liability insurance
  • Must stand, sit, twist, kneel, bend over, crouch down, walk, & sit/play on the floor for extended periods of time. Must lift, push, and pull up to 40lbs without assistance from another adult
  • Ability to be available to work on Saturdays as needed to respond to client needs, handle urgent matters in the field and attend training sessions

**Must have BBS Intern Number at time of application**

Requirements

  • Must have completed a Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy
  • Must have a valid BBS intern number in the state of California at the time of application
  • Must commit to a minimum of 6 months
  • DUE TO COVID-19, ALL SESSIONS ARE CURRENTLY CONDUCTED VIA TELEHEALTH ONLY
  • MUST BE AVAILABLE FOR WEEKLY GROUP SUPERVISION
  • Must be available for once monthly training, also conducted remotely following supervision
